AbstractUnderstanding light interaction with metallic structures provides opportunities of manipulation of light, and is at the core of various research areas including terahertz (THz) optics from which diverse applications are now emerging. For instance, THz waves take full advantage of the interaction to have strong field enhancement that compensates their relatively low photon by: In recent years, the development of precisely controlled tunable narrow linewidth laser sources with appreciable power has provided powerful tools for the measurement and analysis of molecular spectra. Design of a tunable high-Q superconducting notch filter by Argonne National Laboratory. Solid State Science Division. Download PDF EPUB FB2

The design of a tunable high-Q superconducting notch filter is presented. The filter is designed to be manufactured from high Tc superconductors (Nb3S, Nb3Ge) made by high-rate magnetron sputtering on sapphire substrates.

The geometry of the various elements, holder materials for the cryostat, studies relating to the preparation of suitable high Tc materials, and the photo-etching Author: Charles M. Falco, R. Utilizing this varactor a superconducting tunable notch resonator is implemented. The tunable resonator has a measured tunability of more than 20% from GHz to GHz with a biasing voltage.

iv New tunable filter designs are presented that can make use of MEMS switches. A manifold-coupled switched multiplexer that allows for 2 N possible states is presented.

The tunable multiplexer has N filters connected to two manifolds and has embedded switches. The filter design is verified through fabrication of multiple tunable filters that demonstrates MHz of tuning range with a stable RF tuning performance.

View Show abstract. Currently, several microwave filter designs contend for use in wireless communications. Among various microstrip filter designs, the reconfigurable planar filter presents more advantages and better prospects for communication applications, being compact in size, light-weight and cost-effective.

Tuneable microwave filters can reduce the number of switches between electronic by: 4. Although elliptic filters offer high Q and a sharp transition band, they lack a constant group delay in the passband, which implies more ringing in the time-domain step response.

In order to minimize the delay ripple in the pass-band of the LTC, an allpass filter (delay equalizer) is cascaded with the LTC, as shown in Figure Chapter 9 HIGH-TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTOR AND FERROELECTRIC THIN FILMS FOR MICROWAVE APPLICATIONS F61ix A.

A filter linewidth of less than nm is preferred with an optical power handling of mW with an acceptance angle close to ± 27 degree over less than an inch clear aperture. Proposed notch filter designs should clearly include an efficient mechanism for dissipating the absorbed or reflected optical energy at the notch wavelength.
